Reaching a place in the knockout stages of the FBD Insurance County Intermediate hurling championship proved a step too far on Saturday evening last as we fell to Clonakenny at Toomevara.

 

We found Clonakenny hot to handle in the opening quarter and fell eleven points in arrears by the 16th minute. But in true Rovers fashion we fought back. We missed three goal opportunities in the first half and by half time the deficit was down to four points 3-7 to 1-9. In continuing the fightback, the game was level pegging by the 38th minute 2-13 to 3-10. 

 

The arrears was three points by the 48th minute but alas, Clonakenny had another gear in the final ten minutes as they outscored us 0-8 to 0-4 to win 3-24 to 2-19.

 

It may be disappointing to see us exit the championship at this stage of the year but the players can feel very proud of their work throughout 2026. We have to pick up the pieces for 2027as a group of new players will come in to the scene and help make a bid for club honours in the future.

Naomh Eoin will play Moneygall in the North Tipperary Minor Hurling final at Nenagh next Sunday, throw in 2pm. They marched into the final by way of a 5-15 to 1-5 semi final win over Ballinahinch/Templederry at Puckaun last Wednesday evening. 

 

The team includes Marcus Slevin, Jack Hourigan, Michael Gorman, Joe Murphy, Rory Fox, Donal Cleary, Jack Slevin and Alan Bourke. We wish the team the best of luck. 

 

Naomh Eoin were to play against Portroe in the North Under 16 Shield semi final at Portroe on Monday last but the game was postponed due to a shortage of referees. The game is planned for next Monday evening. 

 

Naomh Eoin Under 14 hurlers are currently preparing for the forthcoming quarter finals which will be played early September. 

 

Naomh Eoin Under12 hurlers lost to Moneygall in Kilcolman in the quarter final last Tuesday the 18th of August 

 

Another under 8 blitz will take place next weekend. 

 

 

The Gaelic Games Associations are inviting young members aged 12 to 21 to attend the GAA Regional Youth Forums taking place in September. The forums will give young people the opportunity to have their say on the future of Gaelic games through discussion, debate and interactive workshops. This year, the Youth Forum is coming to regional venues with The Dome, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, hosting a forum on Sunday September 6th from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. The forums have been developed by the National GAA Youth Committee and will help shape the future direction of the Association. Young people are encouraged to attend and have their voices heard.
