Shannon Rovers GAA Notes (28 February 2026)
By Liam Hogan, Shannon Rovers GAA PRO

The late Tony Hogan
The sad news reached the parish and its surrounds of the passing of Tony Hogan, Cloninaha, Ballinderry on Monday 16th February last.

Tony was a farmer and a builder by trade and a most obliging neighbour always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He was an enthusiastic follower of the GAA and Shannon Rovers in particular. He liked to encourage the young hurlers and enjoyed the success of his four sons on the playing fields around Tipperary. He served on many committees and succeeded Paddy Fogarty as chairman of the senior club 1980-1982. He later became chairperson of the Juvenile club 1981 to 1983. In later years he was an enthusiastic worker with the Shannon Rovers Bingo sessions held in Terryglass Hall, each and every Monday throughout the 2010s when he called out the numbers.

His remains were reposed at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Terryglass on Tuesday evening the 17th of February when a large crowd filed past his remains. The following day, Wednesday, officials and members of the Shannon Rovers hurling club, past and present, paid tribute to his memory as they formed a guard of honour marching from the Bridge at Terryglass up to the Church where he was received Fr Tom O’Halloran Co PP/VF for funeral mass with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Tony, predeceased by his wife MaryJo, his brother Willie Joe (Doe) and sister Annamai, will be sadly missed by his loving family Gerard, Pat, Ann, Martin, Carmel and Mary, his daughters in law and sons in law, his sisters Teresa, Phil, Carmel, Marie and brother Pat, extended family, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

Celebration Time For Rovers
Shannon Rovers club has enjoyed a great last few weeks. Last Friday night Austin Tierney received his North Tipperary Intermediate Player of the year award from Len Gaynor at the North Tipperary annual GAA medal and player of the year awards held in Kiladangan GAA complex last Friday night.

The much deserved award comes hot on the heels of two very enjoyable nights when our club honoured players past and present were honoured including the 2025 North Tipperary Championship winning team receive their medals from Michael Bevans at a Banquet held in Ashley Park.

That night also marked the 40th anniversary of the 1985/86 championship winning teams. This was just a few weeks after the 1974/75 winning teams were honoured at Terryglass Hall when Liam Cahill presented a memento to each player.

2026
With all the celebrations over, it’s time to prepare for 2026 and already things are beginning to move in that direction.

Football Win
