Sean Dwyer RIP
The sad news reached the parish and its surrounds of the passing of Sean Dwyer, Grawn, Ballinderry on Sunday 15th March last.

A painter by trade he was a most obliging neighbour always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He was an enthusiastic follower of the GAA and Shannon Rovers in particular. He liked to encourage the young hurlers and enjoyed the success of his son Sean Michael on the playing fields around Tipperary.

Sean was a very good corner back in his day and won a North Minor Hurling Championship with a Shannon Rovers/Borrisokane combination in 1957 when defeating Eire Og Nenagh. Three years later he won a north under 21 hurling medal when the same combination defeated Roscrea in the final. He continued his playing days with the club until emigrating to England in the early 1960s where he began a family and later returning to Ireland in the 1970s.

His remains were reposed at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Borrisokane on Tuesday, March 17. The following day, Wednesday, officials and members of the Shannon Rovers hurling club, past and present, along with members of the Borrisokane hurling club, paid tribute to his memory as they formed a guard of honour marching from the Bridge at Terryglass up to the Church where he was received Fr Michael Cooney PP for funeral mass with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Sean, predeceased by his wife Joan, his brother Tom and sister Mary Ryan, will be sadly missed by his loving family Josephine (Forde), Sheila (Lawlor), Breid (Brophy), Catherine (Forde) and Eileen (McCandless), his son Sean Michael, his sons in law Greg, Thomas, Paul, Brian and Pat, his daughter in law Deirdre; his sisters Nora (Donoghue) and Kathleen (Hoare), Sister-in-law Theresa, Brother-in-law Paddy, nieces, nephews, Grandchildren, Great grandchildren and extended family, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

Medal Presentation
The medal presentation for the Lorrha Rovers under 13 hurlers held in the Complex at Grawn last Friday night was a great success. A full complement of players were present on the night to receive their medals from Tipperary and Kiladangan star Willie Connors. Willie was an outstanding guest on the night as he signed autographs and stood in for photos. Rover’s chairperson Eddie Quinn was the excellent master of ceremonies. Aside from the medal presentation the club committee members deserve praise for the brilliant display of drinks and refreshments provided for all at the end of the night. Well done to all. For the record, Lorrha Rovers defeated Borrisokane in the North under 13 final last autumn.
